Come listen as Professor David Mould talks about his new book Arthur Conolly, Victorian Spy. During the 18th century Britain and Russia vied for geopolitical and commercial dominance in Afghanistan, Iran and Central Asia, in a period often called “The Great Game”.

As Britain and Russia vie for political and commercial influence in the 1840s, an East India
Company intelligence officer embarks on a perilous mission to persuade the rulers of Central Asia to form an anti-Russian alliance, open their markets to British goods, and free their slaves. Conolly’s biography is based on primary sources, including his journals and correspondence, the secret diary he kept during his imprisonment by the emir of Bokhara, and other contemporary documents.

David Mould is Professor Emeritus of Media Arts and Studies at Ohio University. He is the author of three books on travel, history and culture, two historical biographies, and historical articles for newspapers, magazines, and websites.
