Join us and Emily Dickinson expert and scholar, Jim Arnold, for a presentation on the poet herself. The title of the presentation, “The Character of Amherstâ€, is based on a letter sent by Emily’s first publisher, Mabel Loomis Todd, to her parents in 1881. She describes this peculiar woman who is very different from the others – “I must tell you about the character of Amherst… whom all the people call the myth.†This presentation will showcase Emily as a boundary-breaking poet who challenged the conventional nature of poetry and women’s writing at the time. There will be a brief Q&A following the presentation.
