Job Title: Cataloger/Circulation Desk Assistant
Location: Delmont Public Library
Status: Part-Time
Schedule: Includes evenings and Saturdays

Position Summary:
Delmont Public Library is seeking a detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and patron-focused individual to join our
team as a Cataloger/Circulation Desk Assistant. This hybrid role involves maintaining accurate and consistent catalog records, assisting with programs and events, and providing excellent customer service at the circulation desk.
You’ll help ensure library materials are accessible and discoverable through precise cataloging, while also
creating a welcoming environment for patrons by assisting with check-ins/check-outs, reader’s advisory, and general inquiries.

Key Responsibilities:
Cataloging:

  • Catalog and process new materials Maintain and update bibliographic and item records in the ILS
  • Ensure consistency in spine labels, call numbers, and item classification
  • Assist in weeding and collection maintenance projects
  • Manage physical processing: barcoding, labeling, etc.

  • Circulation/Patron Services:
  • Greet and assist patrons in person, by phone, or email
  • Check materials in and out using the integrated library system
  • Issue library cards, collect fines, and resolve account issues
  • Assist with basic tech help (public computers, printing, etc.)
  • Shelve materials and maintain an orderly collection

Programs and Events:

  • Assist with setup, cleanup, and staffing for library programs and special events
  • Help with preparing materials and supplies for programs
  • Provide support during events, including helping patrons sign in, take part, or find resources
  • Occasionally contribute ideas for displays, promotions, or activities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior library experience or coursework in library science (cataloging knowledge a plus)
  • Familiarity with cataloging tools (e.g., MARC, RDA, OCLC, Dewey Decimal System)
  • Comfortable with technology and library software (e.g., Polaris)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Friendly, flexible, and service-oriented attitude
  • Willingness to jump in and help during busy times or special projects

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED; some college or library tech training preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and push loaded book carts
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work some evenings and Saturdays
